STATE COLLEGE — Mount Nittany Health provider Dr. Faoud Ishmael was recognized recently as Teacher of the Year by the Penn State College of Medicine.
Each year, faculty members who have excelled at teaching medical students at the Penn State College of Medicine receive this award. The award winners are selected based on student feedback, faculty evaluations and observed clinical interactions.
“Dr. Ishmael’s commitment to training the next generation of doctors is an outstanding example of Mount Nittany Health’s mission of ‘Healthier People. Stronger Community,’” said Dr. Upendra Thaker, chief medical officer, Mount Nittany Health. “In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Ishmael is a dedicated physician and continually receives praise from his patients.”
According to one patient review, “Dr. Ishmael is fabulous. I’ve seen many doctors over the past decade try to determine my illness cause. He is by far the best. He listens, responds to questions promptly and worked hard to identify the cause of my issues.”
Ishmael received his doctor of medicine and doctor of philosophy degrees from the Penn State College of Medicine, and he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Ishmael also completed a fellowship in allergy/immunology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
A board-certified allergy and immunology physician, Ishmael joined Mount Nittany Health in summer 2018. He has expertise in allergy management and testing, including testing for allergies related to foods and medicines like aspirin, chemotherapy drugs, penicillin and others.
Ishmael is an avid Penn State sports fan and, outside the office, enjoys spending time with his wife, Susan, and their children, Safia, Sam and Mia.
