Lady Eagles snap P-O’s seven-game winning streak

WINGATE — Bald Eagle Area went 4-0 over six days, including a 4-0 win over Bellefonte on Tuesday, April 23, at home. BEA wrapped up the stretch by snapping Philipsburg-Osceola’s seven-game winning streak, 4-2, on Monday, April 29, at home.

The 10-2 Lady Eagles also beat Central Cambria, 5-2, on Thursday, April 25, at home before rolling to a 15-4 romp on Friday, April 26, at Westmont Hilltop. 

BEA’s Kailey Eckert had two hits, including a triple, against Bellefonte. Ava Stere, Alexa Baney, Shae Housel and Sydney Thompson also had two hits in a 14-hit attack. Taylor Habovick had a key RBI.

BEA’s Sierra Albright came out on top in a pitching duel with Carley Clarkson. She pitched a four-hitter, struck out seven and walked two, while Clarkson struck out two and walked none.

“A very well played game offensively and defensively,” BEA coach Don Lucas said. “We were able to win all phases — hitting, pitching and defense. Albright pitched very, very well. She mixed her pitches up, using her change-up to keep the Bellefonte hitters off balance.”

Albright struck out 15, walked one and limited P-O to just two hits and no earned runs in a senior night pitching duel against Macie Bush, who struck out four, walked one and gave up seven hits and two earned runs.

Stere and Thompson had two hits apiece, while Eckert doubled in a run. Housel, Habovick and Alyssa King also had RBIs. Ashlynn Havens had P-O’s only RBI.

“A great game on both sides,” Lucas said. “Sierra obviously pitched very well. She was consistently hitting her spots. We hit the ball well up and down the lineup.”

Against Westmont Hilltop, Eckert, Stere and Kendra Uberti each had two hits, and Thompson hit a two-run home run. Albright tossed a three-hitter, struck out nine and walked two.

Lady Mounties win 4 in 4 days

Philipsburg-Osceola extended its winning streak to seven by winning four more games in four days.

P-O pounded Central, 12-2, on Tuesday, April 23, at home; DuBois, 11-1, on Wednesday, April 24, on the road; Westmont Hilltop, 9-4, on Thursday, April 25, at home; and Bedford, 13-6, on Friday, April 26, at Bedford.

But then Bald Eagle Area ended the win streak, 4-2, on Monday, April 29.

P-O amassed 15 hits against Bedford, including four from Havens and two each from Emily Gustkey, Bush and Payton Barnett. Gustkey, Barnett and Bush tripled, while Morgan Vaughn doubled.

The Lady Mounties pounded out 11 hits against Westmont Hilltop, including two each from Havens, Gustkey, Bush and Maddyx Hampton. But the biggest hit was an Alli Muir grand slam.

P-O amassed 16 hits against Central. Alivia Bizzarri had three hits, including a home run and a double, and four RBIs, while Barnett had two doubles and three RBIs. Havens also had three hits, while Vaughn, Bush and Hampton each recorded two hits. Bizzarri limited Central to just six hits.

The Lady Mounties rolled up 17 hits against DuBois. Bizzarri went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI at the plate and tossed a two-hitter, struck out 11 and walked one. Havens and Vaughn had three hits and three RBIs apiece from the leadoff and No. 2 spot. Barnett had two hits.

State College suffers 2 close losses

State College went 1-2 last week, winning at Mifflin County, 9-5, on Monday, April 22, then losing two one-run games to Chambersburg, 3-2, on Wednesday, April 24, at home and 4-3 on Friday, April 26, on the road.

In the game on Monday, April 22, the Little Lady Lions erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth against Mifflin County. Sydney Wells and Gabby McTavish had two hits and two RBIs apiece, and Elizabeth Sikorski knocked in two runs. Sarah Mellott, McTavish and Sikorski doubled.

In the Wednesday, April 24, game against Chambersburg, State College had a 2-1 lead, but the Lady Trojans scored two in the sixth to go ahead. Wells had two of her team’s four hits. Addie Harpster had a home run and two RBIs. Harpster tossed a five-hitter, struck out seven and walked seven.

In the game on Friday, April 26, State College saw a 3-1 lead slip as Chambersburg scored three in the fifth. The Little Lady Lions were held to four hits, and Wells had two RBIs.

Bellefonte throttles Johnstown

Bellefonte rebounded from its loss to BEA by rolling to a 22-0 win in three innings on Thursday, April 25, at Johnstown and winning at Somerset, 7-2, on Friday, April 26.

Sienna Barnhart had three hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in four at Somerset. Maria Cotter had two hits, Taylor Brown hit a home run and had two RBIs and Ragan Manning and Sadie Ripka doubled. Clarkson tossed a three-hitter, struck out four and walked one.

Bellefonte amassed 19 hits in three innings against Johnstown. Cotter had four hits, while Manning and Ripka delivered three hits and three RBIs apiece. Grace Novitsky, Barnhart and Jaylee Lose had two hits each. Brown homered and had five RBIs. Barnhart also had three RBIs. Alaina Smith got the shutout, striking out three.

Lady Rams win slugfest

Penns Valley won a 15-10 slugfest over Clearfield on Tuesday, April 23, at home, and won at Somerset, 6-0, on Thursday, April 25, but the Lady Rams suffered a 3-2 loss in nine innings on Friday, April 26, at Central Cambria.

At the game on Tuesday, April 23, Penns Valley pounded out 19 hits against Clearfield. Sydnie Dalton had four hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Haddley Stover had three hits, including a homer, and four RBIs, while Clara Brooks had three hits, including a homer, and two RBIs. Scotty Dinges, Elle Dinges and Taylor Bumgardner had two hits each.

Bumgardner tossed a four-hitter, struck out 11 and walked none against Somerset. She also had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Elle Dinges and Gracie Riddle had two hits apiece.
