STATE POLICE AT PHILIPSBURG

A 53-year-old Philipsburg man reported to police someone stole prescription pills from his vehicle while it was parked along Hillside Drive in Rush Township sometime from 10 p.m. Oct. 25 to 8 a.m. Oct. 26.

Troopers said they are investigating a crash along Tyrone Pike near South Mountain Road in Taylor Township at 2:32 a.m. Oct. 18. Police said they believe alcohol to be a factor, but did not provide details of the crash. The operator was identified as a 22-year-old Altoona man.

Leon R. Dillard, of Pittsburgh, was not hurt when his car struck a deer along Julian Pike near Furnace Street in Huston Township, according to police. Troopers said the car hit a deer then a cement culvert at 2:25 a.m. Nov. 13.

Troopers are looking for help identifying the driver of an SUV that rear-ended another vehicle and continued driving along Route 322 at 7:15 a.m. Nov. 16. Police said a white SUV rear ended a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Philipsburg woman while merging onto Route 322 from East Presqueisle Street, and the driver continued on without rendering aid. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call the Philipsburg barracks.

A scanning device from Walmart was found in the area of Wompam Hardware Company in Rush Township at 2 p.m. Nov. 17, according to police. Troopers said the device is black in color and they are looking for information or an owner.

 

STATE POLICE AT ROCKVIEW

Two people were hurt — one of them seriously — in a crash along Nittany Valley Drive in Walker Township on Nov. 17, according to state police. Troopers said Michael J. Cease, of Boiling Springs, was traveling north on Route 64 at Deitrich Road at 2:58 p.m. when his car was hit from behind by another car driven by Sam M. Harman, of Hazelton. That pushed Cease’s vehicle into the oncoming lane where it was hit in its passenger’s side by a car driven by Donald W. Strickler, of Howard, who was traveling south. Cease was flown to UPMC Altoona with suspected head trauma, police said, and Strickler was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center with minor injuries.

Zachary S. Benedict, 21, of State College, was charged with retail theft after troopers said he stole a box of Rice Krispies Treats and a Starbucks Frappuccino drink from Dollar General in Boggs Township at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 18.

A 26-year-old Howard man had to be revived by naloxone after he overdosed on heroin at 10:40 p.m. Nov. 18 at a residence on Spearing Street Extension in Howard Township, according to police. Troopers said they responded to the residence for a call of a suspected overdose and found Cody Mann required naloxone to be revived, administered by Beech Creek EMS. Their subsequent investigation led them to believe Mann had ingested heroin. He was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment.

The driver and passenger were hurt in a crash along Pine Glen Road near Bucktain Lane in Burnside Township, police said. Troopers reported Robin L. Slowikowski, of North East, was traveling south when she lost control of her SUV  at 9:38 a.m. Nov. 18. The SUV then went off the east side of the road and struck a tree then overturned. Slowikowski and a 9-year-old female passenger both suffered minor injuries, police said.

Troopers said they found a mobile phone along Shiloh Road in Benner Township at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 and were unable to locate the owner.
