P-O, Bellefonte, BEA battling in LHAC Section 4 Golf.

PORT MATILDA — Things have heated up in Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference Section 4 golf.

Philipsburg-Osceola, Bellefonte, BEA, Clearfield, and Penns Valley have squared off twice in the past two weeks with P-O and Bellefonte each taking top honors.

On August 25 at Skytop Country Club, the teams met and the Raiders came away with a 4-0 record with a team total of 351. 

P-O was second with a 360, which was the first time this season that the Mounties lost a match. 

BEA followed with 372, Clearfield had 377, and PV scored 408.

Gavin Chalfa led Bellefonte with an 81, while Joey Swentosky shot 87, Cory Lutz had 89, Evan Vongunden, 94, and Cooper Poorman, 97.

Medalist for the day was Kane Wolf from BEA with a 71, and P-O’s Jake Lucas turned in a 74.

Earlier on August 21, P-O took honors at Clearfield Country Club and remained undefeated up to that point. 

The Mounties were led by Lucas who fired an even-par 71 at CCC that led his team to wins over Clearfield, Bald Eagle Area and Penns Valley in the event.

As a team, P-O’s top five finished with a total score of 331, with BEA finishing second with a total of 360. Clearfield came in with a total of 367 and Penns Valley scored 480.

Lucas, who shot 35-36 on the par-71 layout, scored his best round of the season so far. He had a 79 and a 78 in previous matches.

Parker Lamb followed with an 83, Ian Fisher-White shot an 87 and Ryan Kolbe and Nick DeSimone each scored 90.

BEA’s Wolf was a close second for medalist honors with a 2-over 73 while Landyn Lanager shot an 81.

The Section will remain in competition until the LHAC Championships which are scheduled for mid-September.

State College finishes second in the August 20 Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division Golf Match.

The State College Little Lions golf team took second place in a six-team, Mid-Penn Commonwealth Golf match at home on August 20.

The Lions came in behind No. 1 Hershey’s 7-over par, 295 team score and just ahead of Central Dauphin.

Fourth place went to Cumberland Valley, then Lower Dauphin and Chambersburg.

SC’s Luke McGraw posted a 1-under, 71 and finished second in the individual tournament behind medalist Carson Hummer from Hershey, who shot a 3-under 69.

State College’s Charlie Ladrido and Luke Ladrido tied for sixth place with scores of 76, and Ty Miller was tied for 11th place with a 78.

Brady Wager finished in 16th, Alex Hoskins in 18th and Jacky Sun tied for 30th.

The Little Lions are presently 15-2 overall for the season after their dual-match win over Altoona, at Altoona, on August 25.
