PHILIPSBURG — The Hollidaysburg girls golf team continued its undefeated season with a victory in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference tournament held at the Philipsburg Elks Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The Lady Golden Tigers shot a 338, seven strokes better than second place Central Cambria’s 145. Philipsburg-Osceola finished third, and Bishop Guilfoyle came in fourth.

Crosby Denis and Maliah Malausky, both from Hollidaysburg, tied for medalist honors, one stroke ahead of Jazmine Boland from Central Cambria and two strokes ahead of Eva Bagley from Guilfoyle and Maddyx Hampton from Philipsburg-Osceola.

The Lady Mounties finished 1-2 on the day and their season record up to this point slipped to 8-4. Hampton led the team, followed by Nora Burns, Bella Minarchick, Whitney Monosky — playing in her first high school match — and Addison Henry.

P-O head coach Jordan Albright was happy with his team’s performance, but he also talked about improvements in their short games and putting.

“We lost two matches today and won one,” Albright said, “but we have to keep that in perspective. Our score today was the second best we’ve had this season. If you look at it that way, it was not too bad, especially since we were missing one of our top players.

“And Hollidaysburg is a 3A school and is undefeated, so I knew we had our work cut out for us today against them. Central Cambria is another good team, too, and I think they will definitely make a run at a district championship.

“But I was going through with the girls about how many three putts we had, and if you turn those into two putts, suddenly you’re dropping pretty low. It’s all about the short game.

“Our record now is 8-4, and I like where we are at, especially after how we started. We have a lot of new, fresh girls who haven’t played before, so I like the results we are seeing. But we have to get better.”
