State College secures silver at PIAA States

STATE COLLEGE — One stroke.

Four golfers included for each team, and the State College Little Lions finished one stroke behind Pa. state champion Unionville.

Playing on the Penn State Blue Course on Oct. 22 in the PIAA State AAA Team Golf Championships, the Little Lions and Radnor came in with scores of 287, while champion Unionville shot 286.

Charlie Ladrido shot a 3-under 69 to lead the Lions for the day, with Brady Wagner coming in a 1-under 71, Luke Ladrido at 73 and Luke McGraw at 74.

Their 287 total was one agonizing stroke behind Unionville’s 286.

Unionville’s No. 1 Charlie Barrickman was the difference.

He shot a 5-under 67, while his teammates shot 71, 72 and 76.

And Radnor, led by Lannon Boyd’s 2-under 70, came in tied with SC at 287.

Barrickman, after a 35 on the front nine, nailed four birdies on the back nine, with the clincher coming with a birdie four on the par five 18th. He finished his round without a bogie.

The girls’ AAA champion was Conestoga with a 228 total (3 golfers), while Peters Township was second, and Mount St. Joseph’s, Fox Chapel and Hollidaysburg all tied for third place.

In the boys’ AA, Scranton Prep came in with the best score of the day with a 6-under par team score of 282. Cathedral Prep was second with a score of 290, and Devon Prep was third at 296. Altoona’s Bishop Guilfoyle finished 8th with a 316.

In the girls’ AA, West Middlesex took the title with a score of 237, followed by Fairview, Trinity, Shady Side Academy and Westmont Hilltop.
