STATE COLLEGE — Mark Sandow and Zemu Zhang won four matches apiece — both winning 6-0, 6-1 in singles against Mifflin County at home on Monday, April 3 — as the State College Area High School boys swept a trio of contests to run their record to 7-1.

Sandow and Zhang defeated Jaron Yoder and Quinn Miller, respectively, as the Little Lions blanked the Huskies, 5-0. David Chong also was a 6-1, 6-0 victor in singles against Luke Grove.

At second doubles, Peter Novikov and William Liu won love-love over Bryce Rishfell and Kowen Wert. Ishan Sharma and Jerry Zhang prevailed against Gunnay Wagner and Landon Mazur in first doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

The Mifflin County win came after State College had dispatched Mercersburg Academy, 6-2, on the road on Thursday, March 30, and shutout Northern, 5-0, at home on Wednesday, March 29. Sandow and Zemu Zhang were able to pick up an extra win by emerging victories in singles and then teaming up for a doubles point in the Mercersburg match.

There, Sandow topped Arnav Pallapoth, 6-2, 6-4, and Zemu Zhang downed Logan Bulb, 6-1, 6-3, before joining forces for an 8-2 win over Pallapoth and Jamie Tolley in first doubles.

In the other singles matchups, Chong defeated Tolley, 6-2, 6-4, and Jerry Zhang beat Max Zhang, 6-4, 6-4. Mercersburg got a singles point via Simon Brennan’s 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Sharma. Dash Nealon was leading 7-5, 3-3 in six singles when the match was abandoned because the Little Lions had wrapped up the team victory.

Liu and Novikov posted a 9-7 win over Brennan and Max Zhang in three doubles, but Mercersburg scored a team point with an 8-4 win over Reed Melvin and Jerry Zhang in second doubles.

The Little Lions only dropped two games in the Northern match, with Sandow, Zemu Zhang and the team of Nealon and Sharma winning 6-0, 6-0 over Steven Fiscus, Braeden Rudy and the pairing of Logan Dohner and Connor Engle.

Chong dispatched Sam Kessinger, 6-0, 6-1, in third singles. Jerry Zhang and Melvin prevailed by that same score against Zach Graby and Aidan Tode.
