CENTRE COUNTY — State Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, is set to host multiple informative sessions aimed at guiding locals with the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program application process. LIHEAP provides cash grants to low income families to help pay for heating bills during Pennsylvania’s coldest months.

According to the Department of Human Services’ website, applications for the grants became available on Monday, Nov. 4, and will remain open until April 4, 2025. The grant is a one-time payment and is based on household size, income and fuel type. The grant ranges from $200 to $1,000.

“With temperatures dropping, LIHEAP is essential for ensuring that our most vulnerable residents have access to the heating assistance they need during the cold winter months,” Takac said in a statement.

The three LIHEAP events will be:
• Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Howard United Methodist Church, 144 Main St., Howard
• Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Snow Shoe Township Building, 268 Oldside Road, Clarence
• Monday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Takac’s District Office, 216 W. Hamilton Ave., State College

“This series of clinics across all regions of our district is another effort that my team and I are making to bring services directly to all constituents,” Takac said. “We’re here to help everyone who qualifies get the assistance they need so that no one is left out in the cold this winter.”
