STATE COLLEGE — Ella Tambroni notched three goals and assisted on a fourth as the State College Area High School field hockey team snapped out of its offensive slump and ended a five-match losing skid with a 4-0 win over visiting Mifflin County at Memorial Field on Monday, Oct. 2.
Kiera Loviscky stopped eight shots for the shutout as the Lady Little Lions improved to 5-7.
The hat trick was the third of Tambroni’s career. She planted what turned out to be the only goal her team needed on a penalty corner at 14:02 of the first quarter with the assist going to Allie Peters. Tambroni scored her second goal on a penalty stroke with 13:50 left in the first half.
Twenty seconds after Lanie Herlocher bounced a shot off the pads of Mifflin County goalkeeper Maddie Norman into the net after passes by Tambroni and Addie Gagnon early in the third frame, Tambroni completed her hat trick unassisted.
State College forced Norman to make 12 saves and had 11 penalty corners to Mifflin County’s six.
Tambroni’s three goals were more than the Lady Little Lions scored combined during their losing streak.
Loviscky was peppered with 18 shots on goal by visiting Newport on Wednesday, Sept. 27, when State College lost, 4-0. Newport’s Leah Stuck had a hat trick.
Herlocher had three of State College’s four shots in the match.
