YMCA of Centre County receives 2022 governor’s award

STATE COLLEGE — YMCA of Centre County has received the Governor’s Victim Service Pathfinder Community Service Award for 2022.

This distinguished award recognizes the visible contribution and impact the Y has had on victim services throughout Centre County. It was presented via Zoom on Nov. 17.

The Y is a leading organization in providing Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training to Centre County community members. This training teaches adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. More than 8,000 adults in Centre County have received this training, and it is provided to community members, local businesses, school districts and other professionals at no cost.

The Y also runs a successful Anti-Hunger Program, which provides food to community members and children in need. The Anti-Hunger Program hosts 21 food distributions across Centre County each month and partners with Centre Safe to help hand out information about services available to crime victims in Centre County. In addition, all four YMCA of Centre County branches (Bellefonte, State College, Moshannon Valley and Penns Valley) frequently work with Centre Safe and other local victim service agencies to help raise awareness about victim’s advocacy programs in Centre County.
