Coroner’s Office Identifies Man Killed in Crash on I-80 in Centre County

no description

A 42-year-old Clinton County man died in one of a series of crashes that occurred Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 eastbound in Centre County, according to the coroner’s office and state police.

Stephen Long, of Lock Haven, was driving a Nissan NV200 van when he rear-ended a tractor trailer at about 4:18 p.m. near mile marker 158.2 in Boggs Township, according to state police at Rockview. The tractor trailer had been stopped because of traffic congestion.

Long was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, according to Centre County Deputy Coroner Debra Smeal.

The crash was one of three that occurred in quick succession on a 10-mile stretch of I-80 eastbound.

A tractor trailer rollover at mile marker 167 near Lamar was followed by a second crash involving a collision between two tractor trailers, one of which overturned, at mile marker 166.5. No injuries have been reported from either of those crashes.

I-80 eastbound from exit 147 at Snow Shoe to exit 173 at Lamar was closed for about three hours following the crashes.
