Elk Creek Hopes to Start a Tradition with Music Festival

Last summer, many local music lovers and musicians were disappointed when the first big music festival at Penn’s Cave was canceled pretty late in the game.

After the Karoondinha Music and Arts Festival was called off, many musicians who were booked to play at the festival were left with no gigs for the weekend. So, the team at Elk Creek Café and Aleworks got together with local musicians and put together a small impromptu concert called Elk-Ha on the Millheim Fire Company grounds to celebrate local music, craft beer and community.

This year, they are keeping the momentum going with The Millheim Ramble on Saturday, July 28.

According to Elk Creek owner Tim Bowser, the event was so successful last year that there was no choice but to do something like it again.

“It was such a wonderful feeling; the musicians, especially, had such a great time. In fact, one of the musicians, Kate Twoey from Pure Cane Sugar, was shouting from the stage during the show ‘We are going to do it again next year, right Tim?’” said Bowser. “It was just a great time.”

This year, the outdoor music festival at the fire company will include seven local acts, with Mulebone, Ted McCloskey and the HiFi’s, Pure Cane Sugar, Eric Ian Farmer, The Crooked Line and Lemont all scheduled to perform. Local food trucks also will be on hand, along with the Elk Creek beer truck. Tickets for the event, which is scheduled to run from 1 to 8 p.m., are $20.

“It will be a nice, chill day to be outside and hear some great music and hang out with some good people,” said Bowser.
