Alice E. Henry Kinyon, age 79, of State College, PA passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. She was loved by family and friends for her sense of humor, her love of a good bargain, and her compassion.

The daughter of Foy and Hannah Henry, she was born on June 30, 1941 in Knoxville, TN. She graduated from East High School in Knoxville in 1959. She married the Reverend Wayne Kinyon in 1963, with whom she had three children: Shannon, Lisa, and Jonathan. The family travelled through Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Louisiana as the Rev. Kinyon took different parishes and chaplaincies in the Episcopal Church. Shannon, Lisa, and Jonathan share memories of camping across the country out of their VW van each summer, including trips to the Smokies and the American Southwest, including the Chisos Mountains in Texas. Following their divorce in 1984, Alice remained in River Ridge, Louisiana, where she had been an active parishioner at St. John’s Episcopal Church and where she developed her deep love of Creole and Cajun cuisine; gardening; and antique shopping, always looking for that perfect bargain. Alice always took in strays—canine, feline, and human—and nurtured relationships with a far-flung collection of friends. Her companion during those years was Robert Long of New Orleans. Together, Alice and Bob traveled the Gulf Coast, enjoying sailing and good food. She was a loving and proud grandmother, eagerly sharing pictures of her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Earl Henry, of Knoxville, TN.

She is survived by her brothers, Foy Henry (Lollie) of Barstow, CA and Robert (Stanette) Henry of Batavia, OH; her children, Shannon Townsend (Greg) of Black Mountain, NC; Lisa Coggins (David) of Pennsylvania Furnace, PA; and Jonathan Kinyon (Stephanie) of Aspers, PA; her grandchildren, Joshua Coggins of Moab, UT; William Townsend (Anna Kate), of Asheville, NC; Robert Townsend (Abby), of Gerton, NC; and Gabrielle, Annika, Karis, and Grey Kinyon of Aspers, PA; and great-granddaughter Lochlan Townsend, of Gerton, NC.
Following Alice’s wishes, there will be no service. A Celebration of Life for the family will be held at a later date.
