Betty was born in the small Midwestern farm community of Mott, ND a daughter of the late Ralph and Margret Glasser Baespflug, during the early years of the Great Depression. As a member of the “Greatest Generation” she lived through the Depression and WWII where she, like so many, lost brothers and friends. At the age of 12 she lost her Father. Her Mother raised her and her 10 siblings on her own and lived a strong and independent life of 92 years.

In 1953 Betty met Jac, an airborne Ranger returning from combat in the war in Korea. After a short courtship they married and set about to make their future in Southern California. After a few years they were concerned about the future and the cultural direction in California. They moved their family to Alabama where the people and culture was more consistent with their values. They never left.

She saw countless wars and economic turns, horse drawn carts to Americans walking on the moon and advances from rural electrification to nuclear energy, telegraphs to IPhones. What a life she lived. Through it all she taught us our Faith, our discipline, our love of our Lord and Savior and our love for our Country. Mom loved her church and was faithful in her devotion and practice during the last 30 years at Holy Infant of Prague in Trussville Al., prior to that at Our Lady of Lourdes in Huffman and Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood.

After a private service she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.

Our family wants to thank the caregivers of Fair Haven Nursing Center where Mom spent her last few weeks. In addition, we wish to thank all those friends and family for their many prayers and visits to comfort Mom during those final weeks. Most importantly the sons of Betty wish to express our loving and heartfelt appreciation to our sister, Julie who was Moms’ greatest caregiver over the last more than ten years during Mom’s failing health. She gave Mom love, caring, and friendship that extended her life and quality of life during these difficult last years.

GOD IS GOOD!!
