Charles W. Stem, 91, of Howard passed away on October 6th, 2022 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Charles was born on February 2nd, 1931. He was the son of the late Irvin and Anna (Holderman) Stem.
Charles served in the Army during the Korean War, and then spent his entire career working for Cerro Copper & Brass Company. In 1950, he married his beloved late wife, Fay A. (Houser) Stem whom he shared life with for 70 years. They attended the Howard United Methodist Church.
Charles was a hardworking and dedicated husband, father, Pap, and friend. He enjoyed mowing grass, watching old western shows and kibitzing over coffee with his friends. As of recent, his favorite place to go was Sunset West Restaurant and eating hotcakes with his great-grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his children, Kathy Stem of Howard, Thomas (Pamela) Stem of Willow Street, and Diane (Troy) Gates of Howard, his grandchildren Ashlee (Steve) Oliver, Alexis (Brian) Harr, Torylynne (Tyler) Quick, Cory (Jessica) Gates, Cody (Tia) Harmes, Oliver Stem, and Elijah Stem, nine great-grandchildren, Mason, Peter, Madelynne, Anna, Colvin, Ryleigh, Cameron, Pierce, and Brinley, and a brother, Robert Stem. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Caroline Horner, Clair Stem, Mary Ann Hill, James Stem, and Richard Stem.
He will fondly be remembered by the smell of fresh cut grass, back porch swinging, and his distinctive laugh. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
