Chester “Chetty” P. Waite, Jr., 74, of Pleasant Gap, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on May 23, 1947, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Chester P. Waite, Sr. and Thelma (Kline) Waite. On September 30, 1995, he married his beloved wife, Sharon (Fisher) Waite, who survives at home after sharing nearly 26 years of marriage together.

Chetty was a 1967 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He served in the United States Army from January 1968 until he was honorably discharged in January 1974. During his time in the service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and two Overseas Service Bars. He worked in the lime business for well over 30 years, most recently at Graymont.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by his three children, Donald “Donnie” Smith (Jolene) of Philipsburg, Danielle “Pete Pete” Smith (Scott) of Bellefonte, and Cody Waite of Pleasant Gap; and 10 grandchildren, Jordan, Bryan, Parker, Dax, Hunter, Carter, Aylaa, Avynn, Riah, and Skylar. Also surviving is one sister, Annie Becthol of Lock Haven.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn.

Chetty lived to work – he took great pride in his work ethic and forged many friendships over the years. He enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions. Whether he was in a tent or a camper, he loved when he was able to take a camping trip! Wherever he was, whatever he was doing, his faithful canines, Sadie and Charlie, and his affectionate feline, Cinni, were always close at his side. Anyone who knew him will remember his love for life, and how he always lived his life to the fullest. Most of all, Chetty loved his children and grandchildren. He leaves them with countless memories that they will forever cherish.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 10-11am, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11am with Pastor Clayton Kessling officiating. The family would like to ask that those who wish to attend the service, to please dress comfortable, just has Chetty would have wanted! Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
