Chet Workman

To know him was to love him. 
Chet Workman, 78,  passed away at home on June 25, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 22, 1942, to the late Chester and Edna (Hoy) Workman of Mingoville, where he lived with his four siblings; Fred (Helga) Workman, Doris (Earl) Yarnell, Margie (Bob) Rightenour and Norma (Barry) Hinds. Chet was happily married to the love of his life, Linda (Thomas) Workman for 24 years. Together they shared a love for golfing, dancing and serving others. Chet was the epitome of a good man. He was kind, generous and a friend to all. It was well known that he would drop everything to help a friend in need.

In addition to his wife, Chet is survived by his two daughters Susan McDaniel, Kathey (Jerry) Bernhard, and his step-sons, Matte (Tina) McCartney, Sam (Amy) McCartney, Tom (Paula) McCartney. He also survived and enjoyed the company of his grandchildren: Shea (Darin) Hazel, Lana (Lee) Fulton, Tyann McDaniel, Emily McCartney, Jesse McCartney, Lea McCartney, Elle McCartney, Payne McCartney, Breonna McDaniel, Benjamin McCartney, and four great-grandchildren. 

Chet lived a life just like his last name implies a WORK-MAN. In his youth, he worked as a caddy at Nittany Country Club (NCC), worked in the Mingoville chicken coops with his dad and various other jobs at Hecla Park. He was later employed by Clasters Building Materials. He owned and operated Hecla Sports Shop and Chet Workman Construction. Chet was a founding member of Black Eagle Bowmen Archery Club and the former president of Pennsylvania State Archery Association. Chet was an avid fisherman, baseball and softball player, golfer, hunter, and enjoyed throwing horseshoes and darts. He was also a boy scout and boy scout leader of Walker Township Troop 52. He served on the consistory and was the youth group leader at the Zion United Church of Christ . Chet was an active member, worker and friend to all at the Nittany Country Club. He was a member of the Howard VFW and the Bellefonte Moose. Chet enjoyed all the carpentry projects he did for his kids and grandkids over the years. Chet and Linda saved and loved many cats and dogs, they were often referred to as the Dr. Dolittles. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind and generous heart and singing both kinds of music – country and western.
Chet was welcomed into heaven by his parents and son-in-law, Bobby McDaniel. 

Friends and family are asked to join in a celebration of life picnic on July 31st at 2:30 pm at the Walker Township Park.  In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to honor Chet is asked to make a contribution to Centre County PAWS.
