Dennis James Butler 75, of Lock Haven, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Williamsport Hospital.

Born August 21, 1945 in Lock Haven to Boyd and Verna Dullen Butler.

On October 11, 2013 after a 42 year engagement Denny married the former Diane Kinley at their daughter Colleen’s wedding rehearsal. It was a surprise to everyone that night. He said he waited so long to get married to make sure it was going to stick.

Denny attended St. Agnes Catholic School and Lock Haven High School.

Denny was a simple man not caring about the material things in life.  He was more concerned about the people he loved and what he could do to help everyone around him.  If there was a need that either his family or friends had he did his best to quietly fill it or find someone who could, never wanting any recognition for it.  He always made time to help the older generation even as he became part of the older generation.

He loved playing cards with friends and loved taking a Saturday or Sunday here and there to go to the casino with his wife and special friends Walt and Gert.  If he broke even he called that a good day. He also enjoyed watching Eagles and Penn State football, golfing with his sons-in-law and Ron Houser, and fishing with his grandkids. He was extremely proud of his family and had a treasure trove of family photos and momentos that he collected over the years.  He was always quick witted and loved sharing stories of his younger years with friends and family.

After his family and friends Denny’s next love was animals.  He had a heart for taking care of them and could be found every evening in Mill Hall at the fishing creek feeding the ducks.

In his younger years he worked for James Prough roofing and The Capitol Coach.  In his middle and later years he worked as a general contractor and all around handyman.

Denny is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Holly (Adam) Lindsey of Woolrich, daughter Colleen (Dan) Burfield of Salona, granddaughter Avery Lindsey and grandsons Adam Lindsey Jr, Cooper, and Ryker Burfield.  He is also survived by his sisters Wava (Joe) Karichner, Renee Brown, and Lynn (Wayne) Bitner as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arnie and Clarence Butler and brother-in-law Russell Brown.

Services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Blanchard Church of Christ, 161 Beach St., Blanchard, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Russell J. Moldovan officiating.  Friends and family will be received from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the church.  Burial will be held at the Schencks Cemetery, Howard.

Family requests casual dress for the services as Denny preferred jeans and a comfortable shirt any day of the week.

Memorial contributions to Clinton County SPCA or Blanchard Church of Christ.
