Donald R. Ammerman, 95, passed away in his residence on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. He was born in Bellefonte, April 14, 1926, a son of the late George Raymond and Ruth Shultz Ammerman. On June 17, 1945 he married Joyce M. Breon who preceded him in death after 69 years. Don was a 1944 graduate of Bellefonte High School, an Eagle Scout and an Army Veteran. Don was a Corporal in the United States Army Air Force from Nov. 1943 to Oct. 1945. In 1951 he was discharged as a Sgt. in the Air National Guard. Following the Army he attended the Williamsport Area Community College and was employed at the Milesburg Power Plant as a machinist eventually rising to the position of Plant Superintendent. An active community servant he served on the Milesburg Planning Commission, Milesburg Borough Council and the Bald Eagle Area School Board. Don donated blood at the blood mobiles for over 50 years. A former member of the Milesburg Baptist Church serving as both Elder and Deacon. In recent years he attended the Milesburg United Methodist Church.


He is survived by his son, Randy D. (Mitch Ballas) Ammerman of State College and two daughters Donna Sue Ammerman of Milesburg and Penny M. (Glenn) Thompson of Howard. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Karen O’Brien (Larry) Ammerman of Bellefonte; one brother, Charles R. Ammerman of Pleasant Gap; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sons Larry and Brook.  


Family and friends will be received for a Celebration of Life at the Milesburg United Methodist Church, 301 Turnpike St., Milesburg on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 1 PM to 2 PM with the services to follow at 2 PM with Pastor Ronald E. Baker officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Milesburg United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 535, Milesburg, PA 16853 in memory of Donald Ammerman.
