Donnis J McClellan (Heiser)

Donnis J. McClellan, 92, of Spring Mills, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Friday, January 1, 2021, at the Wynwood House at Salem Hill. Born on July 15, 1928, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Dorothy (Dearing) Heiser. On November 15, 1956, she married J. Dean McClellan, who preceded her in death on August 25, 1999.

Donnis was a 1945 graduate of Centre Hall – Potter Township High School. Early in life, she worked as a clerk for Crabtrees Jewelry Store in State College. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for McClellan Chevrolet, J. Alvin Hawbaker, and State College Fuel and Supply Company, over the years. She worked for the National Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters in Washington, D.C. as a bookkeeper as well. After marrying Dean, she became a stay-at-home mom and caretaker of the house and children.

Donnis was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and putting together jigsaw puzzles. You could always find her cleaning something because she liked her home to be tidy and well maintained.  

Donnis is survived by two sons, Dennis Crawford and Jeffrey D. McClellan; two daughters, Dena J. Ford and Dixie L. Bower; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by one brother, Wallace H. Heiser and one sister, Gloria K. Thoman.

Along with her husband and parents, Donnis was preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Dutrow.
Following Donnis’s wishes, there will be no services. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
