Edith M. Richards, 94, of Milesburg, passed away peacefully at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Born on December 23, 1930, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Erdie (Thompson) Woodring. On July 21, 1950, she married David W. Richards. They celebrated 69 years of marriage before his death in 2019.
Edith was a 1949 graduate of Port Matilda High School. She retired from Centre Community Hospital (Mt. Nittany Medical Centre) in State College where she was employed 19 years in the business office and as an emergency room receptionist.
Edith was a member of the Martha United Methodist Church, the Martha United Methodist Women, the WCTU, and the Port Matilda Grange.
First and foremost, Edith was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She found great joy and pride in caring for her family and others around her. She will ever be remembered for her quiet strength, her wit, her unassuming manner, and her enormous capacity to love.
Edith is survived by her six children: David N. Richards and his wife, Mary, of Port Matilda, Dennis R. Richards and his wife, Christina, of State College, Dianne M. Richards of Bellefonte, Joyce A. Johnson and her husband, George, of Flagstaff, AZ, Julia E. Gordon and her husband, Scott, of rural Bellefonte, and Jay R. Richards and his wife, Rebecca, of Pilot, VA; nine grandchildren: Allen Hunt, Karen Thomsen, Ryland Richards, Margaret Leon, David I. Richards, Daniel Richards, Thomas Gordon, Kathryn Dettinger, and Isaiah Gordon; 12 great-grandchildren: Marieke Hunt, Hannah Richards, David R. Richards, Evan Richards, Sheray Richards, Ian Richards, Hailey Richards, Aliana Leon, Valerie Leon, Elsaline Richards, David J. Richards, and Elaine Richards, and a sister, Donna Stewart of Bellefonte.
Along with her parents, Edith was preceded in death by three brothers: H. Calvin, Homer, and John; five sisters: Ruth, Ethel, Mary, Esther, and Elsie.
A time of visitation will be on Saturday, March 8, from 10-11am followed by the funeral service at 11am at the Martha United Methodist Church, 194 Ardery Hollow Road, Port Matilda, PA with Pastor Tom Yackley officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Williams Cemetery in Houston Twp.
