Edward “Eddie” Thomas Kern, 64, of Bellefonte, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on January 19, 1957, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Edward N. and Erma M. (Rhoads) Kern.

Eddie was a 1975 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1981. He lived in California until 1986 then moved back to Bellefonte. He worked as a painter for Pennsylvania State University, Office of Physical Plant, for over 30 years until his retirement.

He is survived by his two daughters, Amber Mehle (Seth) of Denver, Colorado, and Megan Kern of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; his granddaughter, Chloe Mehle, and his dog Ace.

He was a member of the Undine Fire Company, the VFW, the American Legion, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Castanea Fire Company. In his spare time he loved hunting, fishing, playing pool, puzzling, building car models and most importantly spending time with his daughters. His proudest accomplishment was being a father — he loved his daughters and granddaughter more than anything. Ed was a friend to all and never hesitated to help when someone needed him. He had a heart of gold, loved to make people laugh, was fun to be around and was well known as “Crazy Eddie.”

Per Ed’s request there will be no public service and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
