After Howard graduated high school, he continued his education and became a CPA. He worked as a CPA for Clipper Magazine in Lancaster prior to his retirement in 2004.

Howard was an avid hunter of wildlife from an incredibly young age. His passion for hunting continued throughout his lifetime. In the 70’s, he taught hunter education and gun safety at the Apollo-Spring Church Sportsman Club. He was a member of the NRA and the National Wild Turkey Federation and had a special knack and ability to call turkeys. He had several toms mounted and was proud of the turkeys he bagged over the years. He was an advocate for gun safety and hunting programs for handicapped individuals. Along with hunting, he enjoyed fishing. He would take his children on picnics and fishing trips. They entered a fishing tournament and his daughter; Michelle won a bicycle for catching a prize trout. It was a proud moment for him. He taught of all his children to love wildlife and how to shoot, hunt, and clean their game. When he and Betty started seeing each other, they would go hunting and fishing together, and this continued until their health would not allow it. It is safe to say that Howard was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting for more than just animals, he liked to hunt for morel mushrooms. He could be an opinionated man and tried to stress the importance of politics and registering to vote. He had a heart of gold and would tell Betty, anything she wanted, he would try to provide it for her, and he did. They would go out to eat at various places and she felt spoiled by him. He was a smart and meticulous man, that will forever be loved and remembered.

There will be no services for Howard at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the National Wild Turkey Federation, Attn: Development Department, PO Box 530, 770 Augusta Road, Edgefield, SC 29824-0530.
