John H. “Jack” Lose, Jr., 74, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Born on October 3, 1948, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late John H. Lose, Sr. and Melissa M. (Lowry) Lose. On May 28, 1976, he married his beloved wife, Dora (Boswell) Lose, who survives him at home after sharing over 46 years of marriage together.
Jack was a graduate of Bellefonte High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the Vietnam War; he served as a Pistol Instructor at Quantico, Virginia Marine Base, and a member of 8th and I Ceremonial Parade Unit in 8th and I Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. He was honorably discharged in March 1974. During his time in the service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm, the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Action with Palm. After being discharged, he worked for Cerro Copper and Brass for 35 years until his retirement. He also served as a Benner Township Supervisor for one term.
In addition to his wife, Dora, he is survived by his sister, Ellen Riegler (Richard) of Unionville, and nephew Grant L. Kemmerer, III (Jamie) of Pittsburgh.
Jack attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Church of the Good Shepherd of Bellefonte, and the Greater Valley Buffalo Run United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1600 in Bellefonte, and a member at the Bellefonte Elks Lodge 1094. Jack loved his home on Purdue Mountain and the surrounding land. He especially loved deer hunting from his “Tree Palace” on the mountain.
There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 11 A.M., at Greater Valley Buffalo Run United Methodist Church, 1667 Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte, with Pastor Duane Bardo officiating. Full military honors will immediately follow the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
