Lynn F. Bennett, 81, of Bellefonte, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at UPMC Williamsport. Born on November 21, 1943, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Harold David and Vivian (Fisher) Bennett. On September 23, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Confer) Bennett, who survives at home after sharing over 58 years of marriage together.
Lynn was a 1962 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from September 1962 until he was honorably discharged in September 1965. Upon returning home, he worked for Cerro Copper and Brass for over 43 years until his retirement. During his time at Cerro, his main responsibility was prepping the copper and brass parts before they went to the screw machine and eventually worked as the mailman.
In addition to his wife, Betsy, he is survived by their two children, Lynn Bennett, Jr. and Steven Bennett (Tabatha), both of Bellefonte, four grandchildren, Andy Bennett (Heather), Kyle Bennett (Kerston), Whitney Peters (Colby), all of Bellefonte, and Travis Bennett of Eastover, SC, and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Eugene Bennett of Bellefonte.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Carl, and a sister, Louise.
Lynn enjoyed being outdoors; whether he was camping, hunting, fishing, throwing horseshoes, enjoying a Yuengling or tending to his garden, he loved to be outside. If he wasn’t at home, you could always count on finding him riding his scooter on the ‘Nilson loop,’ but if he wasn’t along the loop, he was almost certainly stopped at someone’s house having a chat and sharing a beer together. His outgoing and inviting personality made it impossible for Lynn to ever meet a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone – and just about anything! He could forge a friendship with anyone! More than anything, he loved his family and spending time with them brought him the most joy.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Doug Conway officiating. Full military honors will be carried out directly following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Lynn to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate or to Pets Come First at 2451 General Potter Hwy, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
