Beloved Mom, Sister, Aunt, Friend—
World Traveler, Nittany Lion Alumna and Fan, Follower of Jesus

Nicki went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2021. She is already missed.

Nicki was born on Nov. 30, 1945, in McKeesport, PA (Pittsburgh area native and Steelers fan), the youngest of four daughters born to Richard and Mary Katherine (Baker) Gorr. Growing up she enjoyed life with her parents, sisters (Lois, Carol and Kay), and childhood friend Judy. Reading Nancy Drew books and walking home from school for lunch were part of her childhood. Her family enjoyed vacationing along Lake Erie and at Ocean City, NJ. Nicki graduated from McKeesport High School in 1963. High School activities included A Capella Choir, Forensic club, National Honor Society, and Theater (she was in at least two plays, including playing the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz).

Nicki graduated from Penn State University in Dec. 1966, with a B.S. in Secondary Education/History. While at Penn State, she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, and met and married Roger Herzog (deceased). They settled in State College (and were life-long residents of Pennsylvania) and had two children: Wendy Herzog Dewlen and Richard Frederick Herzog. Nicki was a dedicated homemaker and mother. Nicki and Roger had season tickets to PSU football games for over 50 years (Nicki also enjoyed other Penn State sports), and she was present at both bowl games when the Nittany Lion football team won National Championships in 1982 and 1986.

Nicki will always be remembered as a generous woman who always kept a beautiful, clean house—and was ready for guests. So many of us have enjoyed her good food and hospitality—especially for Penn State game weekends and tailgates. Nicki not only gave generously to missionaries, charities, and her churches, she also gave her time and served faithfully in every church of which she was a member (nursery worker, Kid’s Club, kitchen worker, greeter and more).

Nicki loved her Lord Jesus, her grandchildren Rachel, Abigail and Ryan, her children, nieces, nephews, sisters, her extended family, and all of her MANY friends! She had great love for Happy Valley/Penn State, Sedona, Ocean City, visiting National Parks, and traveling the world!

Although she had many health issues, she enjoyed a variety of activities over the last years while at the Village of Penn State, including playing Bridge and eating dinner with her friends. Even to the end of her life, her mind stayed sharp most of the time, which is how she had been her whole life.

Nicki-Mom-Nana-Aunt: No matter what you called her-We love you and miss you! Now she is healed and whole, breathing, walking and praising Jesus!

We will “Celebrate the Life” of Nicki Herzog on Sat. Aug 7th, at 2 pm, at Stepping Stones Community Church (848 Science Park Rd., State College, PA, 16803). In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Nicki’s memory to either Stepping Stones Community Church (steppingstoneschurch.net) or Feed My Starving Children (fmsc.org).
