Alene M. Mintz, 92, of State College, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Wynwood House Facility, Boalsburg.

Born June 12, 1923, in Salemburg, NC, she was the daughter of the late Handy Minson McLamb and Robetty Jane Porter. On September 11, 1946, in Salemburg, N.C., she married Elwood Mintz, who preceded her in death on January 14, 1995.

She is survived by one daughter, Karin Mintz-Pighetti of State College, a son-in-law, Joel Pighetti of State College; three grandsons, Christopher Hampton, of New Orleans, LA, and Cyle and Connor Pighetti of State College. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three older brothers and three sisters. She was the last survivor of her generation.

Alene was a 1940 graduate of Mingo High School. She received a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics and Social Science in 1945, from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

In her earlier years she was the superintendent of the N.C. public school lunch program and a new product demonstrator for Carolina Power and Light in Raleigh, N.C. She retired in 1985 as the Director of Correspondence Courses in agriculture, family living, & community development, after 21 years of service at Penn State University.

Alene was a 53 year member, of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she was an office volunteer after her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling and was an accomplished bridge and piano player.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Eric Shafer officiating.

Burial will be in the Centre County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
