Alice Wilkinson, 89, passed away at Centre Crest nursing home on June 23 following a long illness. Born in 1925 in Plainfield, New Jersey, Alice was the younger of two daughters born to Violet (Bayliss) and Capt. James M. Brown of the Plainfield Police Department. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1943. Following graduation from business school, Alice took a position at Bakelite. There she met James R. Wilkinson whom she married in 1950. Alice and Jim raised their three children in Darien, Connecticut, where they resided until 1986. In addition to raising Gwen, Richard and Jack, Alice worked at Lord & Taylor’s in Stamford, and enjoyed a successful career in real estate.

In 1986 Alice and Jim retired to Jim’s hometown Bellefonte, where they had vacationed every summer since their marriage. They settled on Curtin Street, and Alice took up golf so she and Jim could play together. After Jim’s death in 1988, Alice travelled and volunteered at St. John’s Episcopal Church and Mt. Nittany Medical Center.

Alice loved needlepoint, and her work can be seen on the kneelers at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Alice was predeceased by her husband, Jim, and sister Gwen Baldwin of Boca Raton, Fla. She is survived by her three children and their partners, Gwen (Karen) (Ithaca, NY), Richard (LeRoy) (Tubac, AZ), and Jack (Tammy) (State College, PA). She is survived by grandchildren Marnie Ecklund (Ithaca, NY), Jason Robertson (Fairfax, VA), Zachary Torres and TJ Torres (Santa Cruz, CA). She is also survived by nieces Connie Corl (Mingoville), Marggie McNichol (Lakeland, FL) and Susan Montgomery (Bellefonte); her nephews Roy Wilkinson (Los Angeles, CA) and Allen Baldwin (Bristol, TN).

She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, and her great grandchildren, Ava and Daniel.

There will be no calling hours. The date of the memorial service, which will be held at St. John’s, has not yet been scheduled. Interment will be in the columbarium at St. John’s.

Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., in Bellefonte will be handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Alice would be grateful to have contributions made in her memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church 120 Lamb St., Bellefonte PA 16823.
