Andrew J. "Andy" Swabick, Jr., 89, of Snow Shoe, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 05, 2009 at the Hearthside Nursing Facility in State College.

Born on June 1, 1920, in Snow Shoe, he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Dorothy S. Minar Swabick, Sr. On Sept. 30, 1950, in Bellefonte; he married Anna Mae Coslo who survives at home. Andy attended the Snow Shoe High School. He served in the United States Army during the WWII. For his years of service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon.

Andy was employed by the Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility in State College as a Correctional Officer, retiring in 1982. He also worked in various coal mines throughout the region. He was a member of the Queen of Archangel Chapel in Snow Shoe, and a member of the Snow Shoe VFW Post 5644.

Along with his wife, Andy is survived by three sons, Gregg M Swabick (Charmaine), of Moshannon, Bill A Swabick (Shelly), of Clarence, David A. Swabick (Pamala), of Tyrone; one daughter, Doreen E Bucha (Francis), of Snow Shoe; and five grandchildren, David, Matthew, Loranna, Andy, and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Friends will be received at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W Sycamore St, Snow Shoe on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. with a Rosary being said at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Queen of Archangel Chapel in Snow Shoe on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Snow Shoe.
