Andrew G. “Andy” Kachik, 84, of Clarence, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte. Born on January 31, 1932, in Clarence, he was the son of the late Andrew and Susan Basalla Kachik. On September 29, 1956, at the St. Severn Roman Catholic Church, he married Jean E. Gillette. Jean passed away on October 6, 2009.

Andy attended the Clarence school. He was an MP United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal for his years of service.
Andy retired from J.H. France Refractory after many years of service. He was member of the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Chapel in Snow Shoe. He, along with his wife, sang in the church choir for many years. He was a member of the family band, The Kachik Band, where he played the fiddle.

Andy played for the Clarence Baseball Team. He was considered the best catcher in the area. He was such a great player; they nicknamed him “Crazy Legs Kachik”. He coached little league baseball for many years. He enjoyed watching Penn State football, but nothing compared to watching the Steelers. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan.

He loved to spend time with his family. He treasured his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Andy enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He was a founding member of the Three Point Sportsman Club in Clarence. He was a member of the Clarence American Legion Post #813, Snow Shoe VFW Post #5644 and the Young Democratic Club in Clarence. He was a past post commander of the Legion and VFW and served at a member of the honor guard. He was very patriotic and proud of his military service.

Andy is survived by his three children; Andrew W. Kachik of State College, Michael G. Kachik and his wife, Shelly, of Clarence, and his daughter, Belinda J. Dixon and her husband, Thomas, of Johnstown.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Rachel and Ian Dixon, Haley Gill and her husband, Jason, Cassandra Norris, Andrew Kachik and his wife, Rachel, Colby Kachik, Michelle and Michael Kachik; brother, George Kachik and his wife, Lorraine, of Las Vegas, NV, three sisters; Mary Jane Greenland and her husband, Frank, of Cleveland, OH, Helen Pavlik of New Jersey, and Pauline Millard of Arizona.

Along with his parents and wife, Andy was preceded in death by his daughter, Deirdre L. Norris and brother, John Kachik.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8pm with a rosary service at 7:45pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 11am at the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Chapel in Snow Shoe with Father Michael Wolfe and Father Lubomir Strecok officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Askey Cemetery in Snow Shoe Twp.
