Surrounded by his family, Barry Q. Carper, formerly of Spring Mills, passed peacefully from this life at Geisinger Medical Center on Saturday, April 28th. He was 73. Born February 2, 1945 in Woodward, Barry was a son of the late Ray and Lodi (Musser) Carper. On February 14, 1970 he was united in marriage to Connie Bitner who preceded him in death on July 12, 2010.

Barry was employed as a milk truck driver for R. W. Bird, retiring with 38 years of service. He enjoyed his job picking up milk and made many friends along his route, including the Amish. Barry was known for being a big time agitator in a fun way, always picking on his friends. In his earlier years, when able, Barry loved to go hunting. Later, he enjoyed working around the home and doing small fix it projects. Attending the antique show at Penns Cave was another joy, but his biggest joy was spending time with his family.

Barry is survived by two sons, Barry E. Carper of Spring Mills and Brian L. Carper (Robyn) of Selinsgrove; and one grandson, Hunter Matthew Carper. Also surviving are siblings, Nancy Gwinn of AZ, Elizabeth “Jane” Rimmey (Edgar) of Centre Hall and Michael “Mickey” Carper (Donna) of Aaronsburg, along with nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Barry was preceded in death by siblings, Allegra “Sis” Thompson, Frank “Chub” Carper and Harold Carper.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 3rd from 10-noon at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at noon. Barry will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be given to Penns Valley EMS, PO Box 650, Millheim, PA 16854.
