Bernice Kathryn Corman, 97, of Zion Road, Bellefonte, departed from her earthly home and entered into eternal rest with her heavenly Father on February 27, 2016. She had entered Centre Crest on Thursday, February 25, 2016. She was born on October 31, 1918, in Centre County, and was the middle child of nine children born to Orvis P. and Gertrude Kelly Smeltzer.

Bernice and Paul Rossman Corman were married October 8, 1938. They began their lives together working on their successful dairy farm where they raised their two children. In 1965 they sold their farm and enjoyed several years traveling the United States, camping, and bowling before Paul died August 10, 1978.

Bernice is survived by her son, Gerald Paul Corman and his wife, Judy, of Amherst, OH; her daughter, Phyllis Jane Corman of Bellefonte, granddaughter, Sharon Corman Del Valle of Amherst, OH; and five great grandchildren, Jacob Lucas Del Valle, Vincent Paul Del Valle, Nicholas Juan Del Valle, Sophia Maria Del Valle, and Emma Catherine Del Valle. She also is survived by her brother, Thomas Smeltzer and wife, Doris of Centre Hall, and her sister, Mary Knepp and husband, Rodney of Port Matilda and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by brothers, Dean and Domer Smeltzer and by sisters, Elmyra Crust, Grace Clevenstine, Louise Emerick, and Geraldine Shaffer.

Bernice was a mother, homemaker, and worked side by side with her husband on their dairy farm for 25 years. She spent many hours crocheting afghans and embroidering beautiful items which she shared with family and friends. Her potato salad with homemade mayonnaise will be missed at the Smeltzer family gatherings. She enjoyed greeting family and friends at the tent and the RV at Grange Fair for over 50 years. She was a member of Zion Community (previously UCC) Church since her marriage in 1938.

The family wishes to thank Comfort Keepers: Misty, Kim, Susan, Kalina, Mae, and client manager Debbie for their kindness and assistance with the care of their mother. We also extend thanks to Centre Home Care (VNA) Hospice and nurses, Susan and Debbie; aids, Norma and Grace: and therapists: Jade, Stephanie, and with special thanks to Brandi.

Services will be held Tuesday, March 1 2016, at the Zion Community Church, 3261 Zion Road, Bellefonte, PA, with a reception for family and friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. A celebration of Bernice’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. The service will be conducted by Pastor Scott Brown of Zion Community Church and Rev. Brenda Clark of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Bellefonte. Bernice will be laid to rest next to her husband Paul in Zion Union Cemetery.
