Bernice I. Dunkle, 95, of Bellefonte, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Centre Crest Nursing Home. Born in Walker Township on July 1, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Keturah (Long) Corman. On October 1, 1941, in Maryland, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald M. Dunkle, who preceded her in death on October 4, 1988 after sharing 47 years of marriage together.

Bernice was a 1941 graduate of Walker Township High School. She worked as an assembler for Penn Tran for over 30 years until she retired.

She is survived by four daughters, Judy Waite (Robert), Donna Holliday (Brett), Joanne Jodon (Walter “Pete”), and Amy Johnstonbaugh, all of Bellefonte. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Cora Sampsell, and one brother, Clifford Corman.

Bernice was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, needlework, and gardening. She was an avid fan of Penn State Football and loved NASCAR, being especially fond of Jeff Gordon.

There will be a public viewing held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 10-11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11am with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery in Bellefonte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernice’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
