Carolyn O. Pearce, 86, of State College, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in State College. She was born September 15, 1926 in State College the daughter of the late Robert H. Olmstead and Evelyn W. Olmstead. On November 8, 1947, she married Richard E. Pearce who preceded her in death.

Carolyn graduated from State College High School in 1944. She attended the Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia. She was employed as the conference scheduler for the Conference Center in Continuing Education at Penn State for 28 years.

She was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church.

Among the things she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and grand puppies. She was an avid Penn State football and lady lion basketball sports fan. She enjoyed reading, painting with water colors, beading jewelry, solving crossword puzzles and working with flowers.

Carolyn is survived by a son, Richard H. Pearce and his wife Janice of Boalsburg, PA. and a daughter Nancy P. Spencer of Harleysville, PA; four grandchildren, Meg and her husband Jarod, Rob Pearce and his life partner Danielle Bumgarner, Mike Smith and his wife Andrea, and Matt Smith. She is survived by seven great grandchildren Avery and Maya Penson, Taylor Bumgarner, Jossie and Tanner Pearce, Julia Smith and Aiden Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert Olmstead and infant triplet children – Russell, Stephen and James.

The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the caretakers who entered Carolyn’s life in the last several years, including The Inn at Brookline and Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of State College, and Horizon Hospice of Altoona. With all of your combined efforts, Carolyn lived her last years as independently and happily as possible.

Friends and family will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, also at the funeral home, with the Pastor Stephen Durr officiating. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family, at Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be made to Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
