Charles Hilton Godlove, 89, of State College, PA passed away on Friday November 23, 2018 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.

Charles was born October 27, 1929, in Turtle Creek, PA. He graduated from High school with honors. He was a 1953 graduate from Penn State University in Agriculture Education. He worked at The Penn State University as a utility worker in the research laboratories for over 30 years.

Charles was the son of the late Harold Francis and Alice Elizabeth (Hardy) Godlove. He is survived by his sister Jane Miller of Clarion, PA as well as a nephew, Scott Burns of Asheville, NC.

Charles resided at Addison Court on Beaver Ave., in State College for many years. He would walk or take a CATA bus wherever he needed to go. Charles was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and his Bible knowledge was vast; he shared his love for and commitment to Jesus with those he encountered on a daily basis. On any given day you may have very likely seen Charles posting scriptures on bulletin boards throughout the Penn State campus or handing out biblical/religious tracts to anyone who would take one.

Charles was an avid music lover. He played the violin, enjoyed Western music from artists such as Roy Rogers and collected Sons of the Pioneers LP's, but his favorite genre by far was acapella hymns. He knew who wrote and composed many hymns as well as the history behind the songs. He was not a proponent of modern conveniences but while at home he would regularly have his radio tuned to the “Family Radio” station.

Charles enjoyed nature and appreciated God's creations. He was a bird enthusiast and enjoyed identifying trees. He maintained the lawn for many years at The State College Church of Christ where he was a longstanding member.

Charles' passion in life was helping people find their path to Jesus Christ. Often, instead of saying goodbye to his friends and acquaintances Charles would say, “Maranatha!” (our Lord is coming!).

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at The State College Church of Christ, 405 Hillcrest Avenue State College, PA 16803. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles' memory may be made to The State College Church of Christ.
