Charles F. “France” McCloskey, 80, of Snow Shoe, passed away at his home on April 17, 2015 from complications caused by silicosis. Born on March 20, 1935, he was the son of Violet Grace McCloskey. On November 29, 1958 in Clarence, he married Velda M. Swancer.

France was a 1953 graduate from Clearfield High School. In March of 1954, he joined the US Army. After basic training, he went to Korea to be part of the construction engineers. While in the Army for three years, he was able to see much of the United States, Korea, and Japan. He earned the rank of SP3 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his years of service.

France was a member of the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Church in Clarence. When he returned from the Army, France worked at J.H. France Refractory in Clarence until his retirement.

When his health allow, France loved to go for long walks, gardening, taking his grandchildren for rides and reminiscing. His absolute favorite past time was spending time with his family. There was nothing more important to him.

France is survived by his wife, Velda McCloskey of Snow Shoe, daughters; Pamela A. Rogus and her wife, James, of Franklin, PA; Carla J. M. Sankey and her husband, Mark, of Mechanicsville, VA; and Jenifer D. Wiseman and her husband, Scott, of Warriors Mark, PA, son in law, Gary Moore of Port Matilda, 14 grandchildren; Ryan Rogus and his wife, Jessi, Eric and Kyle Rogus, Catrina and Conner Sankey, Heath Meek and his wife, Brianne, Becky, Andrew, and Lacey Moore, Amber Watson and her husband, Shawn, Ken, Justin, and Noelle Bickel, and Amber Wiseman, and eight great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Ron McCloskey of Frenchville, PA, his Uncle, Ralph McCloskey of Snow Shoe, and his cousin, Bob Park of Bellefonte, who was very special to France.

Along with his mother, France was preceded in death by his step father, Leo Billotte, daughter, Karen D. Moore, and son in-law, Kenneth Bickel.

The family asks you to honor France’s memory by spending time with your loved ones. A favorite saying of France’s was: “Spend time with your loved ones while they are alive, so that when they are gone, you have no regrets”. Profound words from a wise and wonderful man!

France’s wishes were to have no visitation or memorial service. Burial will be private at the Snow Shoe Church of Christ Cemetery in Snow Shoe, PA.
