Charles William “Bill” Pettit 89 of Belleville and formerly of State College and Lancaster, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Valley View Village in Belleville. Born December 21, 1923 in Lancaster the son of the late Charles Edward and Ella Blymer Pettit. On April 13, 1947 he married the former Betty Kramer who survives.

He is also survived by 2 children, Susan L. Campbell of Port Matilda and C. David Pettit and his wife Saundra of Lancaster. Bill is also survived by a sister Jane Hively of Bellville. He is survived by one step grandson Thad Wolf and 2 great grandchildren Thaddeus Wolf and Wyatt Wolf. One brother C. Hunter Pettit preceded him in death.

Bill was a 1942 graduate of East Lampeter High School and was a captain of the basketball team his senior year. He served in the U S Army during WW II with the 87th Infantry Division. Bill retired in 2003 as Service Manager for Moyer Jewelry and Collegiate Pride following 29 years with the companies. He also worked at D.M. Weaver Grocery Store, and Filling Dry Cleaners in Lancaster. Bill is a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 245 of State College He was active in the Boy Scouts as a young man and later served as a Boy Scout Leader, and attended the 87th Division Reunions in different cities each year.

Friends will be received at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801 on Thursday, September 5 from 9:30 until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held at the Koch Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 am following the visitation, with Rev. Dr. G. Edwin Zeiders officiating. Burial will be in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery in Willow Street.
