Cyrus ”Wayne” DeArmitt, 75, of State College, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at his residence.

He was born at McAlevys Fort in Huntingdon County on February 21, 1940; a son of the late Henry and Sarah Ruth Guyer DeArmitt.

On September 4, 1965 in Limestone, NY he married Mary Jane Cross who survives at home.

Wayne served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Lyman K. Swenson Destroyer for four years, then he served in the U. S. Army for sixteen years, serving actively in two wars, Vietnam and Desert Shield-Storm, serving for a total of twenty years four months, retiring in 2000. He worked as a laborer at Corning Asahi in State College until his second retirement.

He was a former member of the American Legion in State College. He played softball for the Corning Team and coached Ponytail Softball at Houserville. He was a member of a bowling league, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo, playing cards and traveling. He was strong-willed, yet gentle and loving, with a goofy sense of humor.

Surviving Cyrus in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kathryn R. DeArmitt Clouser and her husband Paul W. (Bill) Jr of Bellefonte, and Linda A. Beck and her husband Jerry L. of State College; three grandchildren, Richard S. Musser Jr. and his wife Bree of Millheim, and Victoria K. and Grace L. Clouser of Bellefonte; two brothers, Walter and his wife Sue of Huntingdon, Ellis and his wife Dot of Petersburg, two sisters Blanche DeArmitt of Huntingdon and Theresa Henninger of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by eight siblings Ida Mary Gates, Harry DeArmitt, Grace Bragonier, Sarah Henninger, Stanley DeArmitt, Owen DeArmitt, Francis DeArmitt and Lester DeArmitt.

Friends will be received from 6 – 8 p. m. Friday, July 17, 2015 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 18, at the funeral home with Joel Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Graysville Cemetery Spruce Creek, with full military honors in accord.
