Dale Leroy Thumma, (also known as Shorty, Sparky, and Bad News) 77, of Carlisle, died Sunday, June 10, 2018 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born September 20, 1940 in East Berlin, PA, a son of the late Donald Leroy Thumma and Claramae Irene (Klugh) Thumma.
On December 25, 1958, he married Donna Mae Steinour who survives at home.
Dale worked for Carlisle Syntec as a truck driver, where he retired from in 2004.
Dale was a member of South Fairview First Church of God in Newville, where he was active in assisting in many operational aspects of the church including maintenance. His other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, life membership with the Goodwill Fire Company in Carlisle, Snow Shoe Rails to Trails and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and White Circle.
A person of various skills, abilities and interests, he especially enjoyed deer hunting, riding snowmobiles and four-wheelers, bowling, having been involved in the Carlisle Syntec bowling league, playing golf, camping, traveling, and earlier in life was part of a racing team.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters: Jevonne Marie Morgan (Wesley) of Aspers, PA, Jenece Ann Studt (James) of Middletown,PA and Jody Lee Diehl (Gregory) of Mechanicsburg, PA; two sons, Daniel Leroy Thumma (Donna) of Carlisle, PA, and Douglas Eugene Thumma (Julie) of Newville, PA; 17 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence W. Thumma of Carlisle, PA .
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Koser and Ethel Soule.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Memorial Service at Carlisle Evangelical Free Church, 290 Petersburg Road, Carlisle PA 17013.
A luncheon will follow memorial service in the church
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
