David Blair Young, 75 of Bellefonte, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born in Bellefonte on August 22, 1934, the son of the late Blair F. & Geraldine Houtz Young.

He married Peggy Ertley on March of 1998, she survives at home. He was preceded by his first wife; Betty Ripka.

He was a 1952 graduate of Bellefonte High School. David worked for the Railway Express for 19 years and then as a corrections officer at the Rockview State Correctional Institute where he retired in 1996 after 27 years of service.

He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church for 60 years. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 3 years during the Koriean Conflict as a seaman aboard the USS Ransom mine sweeper. He was a member of the Navy boxing team and also served as a firefighter at the Berman Naval Air Station. He was a life member of the Undine Fire Co.

He loved to bowl in his spare time. He also volunteered at Centre Crest working with the men's crafts, as well as leading bible study.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters; Robin Marshall, Sharon Thompson, and Michele Torsell and husband Dave all of Bellefonte. One son; David D. and wife Kim Young of Bellefonte, three sisters; Shirley Ingraham and husband Jay of Williamsport, Beverly Auman and husband John of Bellefonte, and Brenda VanIngen and husband Lane of Spanish Fort, Alabama. Also three brothers; Robert and wife Jenn of San Diego, Ca., Gary and wife Linda of Richmond, Va., and Dennis and wife Rebecca of Gold Canyon, Az. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Elisha Marshall, Jamie and husband Adam Narehood, Matthrew Torsell, and Cody Young. One great-grandchild; Kierra Narehood and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes St., Bellefonte with the Rev. Sue Goetz officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Centre Co. Memorial Park Cemetery.
