David Mapes, 93 of Mackeyville, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013. He was born October 27, 1919 in Beech Creek, the son of the late Charles Quay and Margaret Irene Peters Mapes.
He is survived by his son, Michael Long (Lynn) of Florida and his daughter, Meg Visconti (Sam) of Arizona. He was a beloved "Pappy" to his grandson, Doug Long (Krista) of Texas, granddaughter, Rose Marie Visconti and great-granddaughters; Laura and Brooke Long. David is also survived by his sister; Mary Eyer and manky nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Dickey Mapes, brother, Bill Mapes and sisters; Sarah and Martha.
He was a veteran of World War II. He loved farming and the Central Pennsylvania countryside. He was an avid reader.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Friendship Community Library of Beech Creek would be appreciated.
A private family service was conducted.
