Dean H. Krape, 78, of Aaronsburg, entered into eternal rest on Dec. 21, 2009 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Dean, the son of the late Henry D. and Rachael E. Hosterman Krape, was born on June 21, 1931 in Aaronsburg.
Dean was a 1949 graduate of the East Penns Valley High School. On Sept. 16, 1962, Dean married the love of his life, Genevieve Hackenburg at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Millheim. Mrs. Krape survives at their home in Aaronsburg.
Dean was a third generation postmaster at the Aaronsburg Post Office, retiring after 32 years of service. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Dean was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where he had been a trustee, and a president of the finance committee, but the job he loved the most was helping in the church nursery, rocking the babies and making them feel loved and happy in God's house.
He was a member of the SAR, the POS of A in Woodward, a 50 year member of the Centre Hall Chapter #537 of the Free and Accepted Mason's, and the Williamsport Consistory. Dean was very involved in activities in his community, consisting of being a 20 year volunteer at the bake oven during the Dutch Fall Festival, a trustee of the Aaronsburg Civic Club, where he enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, a board member of the Aaronsburg library and museum, a member of the Aaronsburg cemetery association and a past auditor for Haines Township.
Dean enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and traveling the country with his wife and daughter, especially to his Aunt Rosie in Colorado. Dean had a heart of gold and leaves many wonderful memories with his family and friends who will sorely miss him.
In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by one daughter, Amy (Krape) Prisk, of Bellefonte; one granddaughter, Jade Krape, of Daytona, Fla.; and one brother, Neal H. Krape and wife Sue, of York, Pa.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow immediately at 3 p.m. with Pastor Cass Harbach officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Millheim Legion. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Aaronsburg.
Memorial contributions in Dean's memory may be given to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Po Box 420, Millheim, Pa. 16854. The Steven R. Neff Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
