Deborah Ann Winkler (formerly Hughes), 51, of Red Mountain Ranch, Mesa, passed away peacefully in her home Aug. 26, 2009.
Debbie was born March 1, 1958, in Bellefonte, PA and was the daughter of John L. Hughes and Marie Swift Hughes. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Matthew Winkler, and her children, Jonathan, 27, David, 26, and Katelynn, 22, along with her grandchild, Parker, 2.
She was the "coolest mom on the block." She took an active role in her children's lives, serving as Girl Scout Leader, soccer coach, and volunteer at her children's schools. She encouraged her children to do well in school, and she was always willing to help them with their schoolwork. She was an active member of the Red Mountain Ranch Community, serving as the captain of multiple tennis teams and coordinator of the Bridge Club. She was a member of Bosom Buddies, and an avid golf and tennis enthusiast. She loved reading, scuba diving, animals, and music, and you could not have asked for a better wife, a better mom, a better "Nana", a better sister, a better daughter, or a better friend.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Garden, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ 85207. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 777 W. Southern Ave, Bldg C., Suite 301, Mesa, AZ 85210.
