Dennis J. “DJ” Stanisic, 63, of Julian, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Steelton, PA, on November 16, 1947, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Margaret A. Kuzma Stanisic. On October 1, 1977, he married Shelley L Lucas, who survives at home.
Denny was a 1966 graduate from Bishop McDevitt High School. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of SP-4. He was of the protestant faith
Denny graduated from the Pennsylvania State Policy Academy in September 1970. For the next 23 years, he served as a dedicated Pennsylvania State Trooper, retiring in February 1994. Throughout the course of his career, Denny received numerous citations and commendations including a Letter of Commendation from the Pennsylvania State Police for his valor and heroism as a result of an act of bravery on August 10, 1983. He also received The Outstanding Officer of the Year award on November 1983.
Denny was best known for his stories and sense of humor. He loved shooting pool, playing cards, and water-skiing. He enjoyed playing and spending time with his five Yorkies. But, most of all, he treasured the time spent with family and friends at the beach and at his cabin. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He
will leave a deep sense of loss for everyone that knew him.
Denny is survived by his wife, two daughters; Raquel Hess of Julian and Deni-Jo Williams and her husband, Matthew, of Port Matilda, and three granddaughters: Hailey Spangler, Jordan Marie Williams and Te Anna Dorey. Also surviving is his daughter in-law, Tina Hemmis of Port Matilda, his brother, Joseph T. Stanisic, Jr. and his wife, Gladys, of Oberlin, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his son, George W Hemmis Jr, who passed away June 30, 2005.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8pm and Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 12 noon until 1pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 1pm, at the funeral home with Pastor Ryan Smith officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Snow Shoe Church of Christ Cemetery.
