Donald B. Bube, 94, died May 20, 2010 at Foxdale Village Retirement Community in State College.

He was born in Lima, Ohio Dec. 26, 1915, to Carl F. Bube and Louise Peters. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served overseas in the Signal Corp Radio Intelligence as a TEC 5. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he earned his Master of Arts from Columbia University. Teachers' College, New York City, and later did further graduate studies at Juilliard School of Music, Syracuse University and SUNY at Fredonia.

He held professional memberships in Phi Mu Alpha, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Kappa Tau. He was an Assistant Professor of Music at Ithaca College from 1946-1957 and conducted choirs there. In the Fall of 1957, he took the position of Director of Vocal Music at Jamestown High School in Jamestown, N.Y. serving until retirement in 1981. He is best known for having been the Director of the A Cappella Choirs during his tenure there. His choirs regularly took part in the NYSMA choir competition festivals where they often received superior ratings.

In Jamestown, Don was a member of the Unitarian Church and of Christ First United Methodist Church, where he served as Choir Director for 18 years.

On Nov. 24, 1978 in Jamestown, N.Y., he married Della (VanderLinden Henderson) who survives him. He is also survived by three daughters, Charlotte Bube of Jamestown, N.Y., Beverly (James) Dinsmore, of Findley Lake, N.Y., and Helen (Douglas) Nychka, of Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren, Christopher Petillo, Alexandra, Everett, and Grace Nychka all of Boulder, Colo.; four step-children, Cheryl Henderson, of Asheville, N.C., Timothy (Beth) Henderson, of N. Potomac, Md., William (Lynn) Henderson of Apex, N.C. and David Henderson, of University Heights, Ohio; and five step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sharon Back, of Syracuse, N.Y., Samuel and Macklin Henderson, of N. Potomac, Md., and Emily Henderson, of Apex, N.C. He was pre-deceased by two brothers and three sisters, his former wife Harriet Eaton, and by a son, Kenneth Bube.

During his retirement he volunteered for the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Food Cupboard, Habitat for Humanity and the WCA Hospital in Jamestown. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In 2003, he and his wife moved to Foxdale Village. There he was an active part of the community and did volunteer work on committees of the Foxdale Residents' Association. Attending concerts given by students and faculty of the Penn State University Music Department gave him much pleasure.

A memorial service will be held June 14, 2010, at Christ First United Methodist Church in Jamestown, N.Y. Date of a memorial service at Foxdale Village will be announced later.
