Donald F. Palmer, 82, of rural Centre Hall, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at his home.
Born on March 19, 1928, in Jenkintown, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Palmer Sr. and Rose Brennan Palmer. Don was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Haffner Palmer, to whom he was married for 57 years.
Donald is survived by his son, Keith D. Palmer of rural Centre Hall; his daughter Kristina P. Keske (David) of Smiths Station, AL; two grandsons of whom Don was extremely proud, Samuel D. Keske of Auburn, AL, and Mark P. Keske of State College, PA; and a sister Lorraine Hughes.
Don graduated from LaSalle College High School on June 9, 1946 and went on to receive his Bachelor�s in Education form Temple University on June 11, 1959. For most of his teaching career Don was a 1st grade teacher and Reading teacher with the Neshaminy School District in Bucks County, PA. During this time Don earned two Master's degrees, one from Trenton State University and another from Lehigh University.
Over the years, Don touched the lives of hundreds of children with his love of reading and his wisdom for life. Don was well known for his dry sense of humor and his kind spirit.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. The gardens around his home drew widespread attention with their beautiful colors and unusual design.
The family would like to thank all of Don's wonderful neighbors and friends who helped Don with his battle against Parkinson's and enriched his life.
There will be an open house at his residence, at 189 Geary Road, Centre Hall, PA where friends will be received from 2:00 to 8:00 p. m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010.
