Donald V. “Don” Hoover, 90, of Snow Shoe, entered into eternal sleep on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on February 7, 1922 in Pine Glen, he was the son of the late Clyde L. & Nora M. Houdeshell Hoover, Sr. On June 23, 1943 at the Clarence United Methodist Church, he married Katherine J. McCloskey, who survives at home.
Don was of the Methodist faith. He was a 1940 graduate from Snow Shoe High School. After high school, Don entered into the US Army. He served during WWII, earning the rank of T5. For his years of service, he was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Don worked as a lumberman all his life. At one time, he owned his own sawmill. Later in life, he opened Don’s Saw Shop, where he would sell and repair all types of saws. He was known for his excellent repair services. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, hunting, and camping. He was the happiest in the outdoors. He also enjoyed working in his garden and would sell his tomatoes and cucumbers throughout the summer.
Don is survived by his wife, their six children; Donna L. Cramer and her husband, James, Brenda G. Almeida and her husband, Ramon, Rodney C. Hoover and his wife, Wanda, Lynda C. Cramer and her husband, Terry, all of Snow Shoe, Keith L Hoover and his wife, Bo, of Lewisburg, and Lane S. Hoover and his wife, Kathy of Kansas City, MO.
He was “Pap Hoover” to his grandchildren; Douglas (Maria) Cramer, Darren (Stephanie) Cramer, Ryan (Jacque) Cramer, Tricia (Gary) Fox, Corey (Karla) Sipes, Brenton (Brandie) Rockey, Seth (Judy) Fye, Adam (Sarah) Hoover, Clay (Rachelle) Hoover, Kylene (Tom) Walk, Trevor Cramer, Alison (Chris) Heilig, Warren (Begina) Hoover, Sarah Hoover, Elizabeth Hoover, Kerri (Komi) Kodijovi, Britt (Amanda) Hoover, Tyson Hoover and Cody Hoover, and to his 29 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Also surviving are his siblings; Ruth O. Hocker, Norma J. Hoover, and Marvin E. Hoover.
Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by five brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10am at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St, Snow Shoe with Don’s son, Pastor Lane S. Hoover officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Church of Christ Cemetery in Snow Shoe.
