Doris (Smith) Capparelle passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and family at Mt. Nittany Medical Center on October 22nd, 2013. Doris was born on October 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Doris A. Bryan and Jay A. Smith Sr. Doris was married October 09, 1950 to the love of her life, Carl R. Capparelle. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Carl survives along with their 6 children – Linda Plozner (husband John), Marjorie Paolicelli (husband Stephen), Thomas Capparelle (wife Martie), Timothy Capparelle (wife Paula), Barbara Berenty (husband Christopher), Toby Capparelle (wife Noelle). Doris leaves behind the following grandchildren Alan Capparelle (wife Dana), Elizabeth Chalfa (husband Josh), S. Alexander Paolicelli, Angela, Nicholas, Jayden and Parker Capparelle. Two great-grandsons Gavin Chalfa and Cane Capparelle, 2 step-grandchildren Alayna Kilic and Sean Stevens and a step- great grandson Nutuk.

Doris was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. She loved baseball in every form, watching her 'boys' play little league, through to the county league. In the recent years she and Carl followed the “little ones” around the county watching them play soccer, T ball, football and softball. Carl and Doris were great State College Spikes supporters and loved attending home games with family and friends.

Doris will be remembered as a kind and generous woman. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 60 yrs. having won the Catholic Daughter of the Year award twice. Doris also served as chairperson of the bereavement committee. Until recently, she worked the voting polls. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren while doing volunteer at St. John's School. Doris and her family participated every year in the Relay for Life. Their team ”Belle City Smittys” was by far one of the most fun, enthusiastic and heartwarming groups in the Centre Hall event.

Also surviving Doris are her siblings Barbara Shultz, Robert Smith (wife Barbara), Mary Reid (husband James) and Fredrick Smith (wife Yvonne.) and sister in law Mildred Smith. She was preceded in death by her brother Lee Smith, sister Jane Lose and her husband Lewis, brother Jay Smith his wife Ethel, Orlando Pete Smith and brother in law Earl Shultz. Calling hours will be October, 24, 2013 at Wetzler Funeral Home, 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, from 6-8 pm. The Catholic Daughters will have a service at 5:30 pm; A Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 7:45 pm, at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass of Angels will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 10:00 am, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St, Bellefonte PA, with Father George Jakopac officiating. Burial will follow in the St John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte.
