Dorothy Celesta Mingle — loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend — passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. She was 91.

She was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Logan Mills, Clinton County, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Maude A. (Wolfe) Gharret. She married Jensen M. Mingle on May 18, 1947, in Mifflinburg. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1968.

She graduated from Mifflinburg High School in 1941 and was employed at the Kooltex Knitting Mill in Mifflinburg and later at the former Neiman’s Department Store in Millheim. She joined the staff at Penns Valley Area High School in 1969, where she worked for nearly three decades, and from which both daughters and all five grandchildren graduated. She remained close friends with teachers and fellow staff members long after her retirement.

Mrs. Mingle, better known to family and friends as Dot, was an avid seamstress who enjoyed spending time with family, completing puzzles, collecting bells and snowman figurines, and spending late summers at the Grange Fair and at the beach with family.

She was a member of the East Penns Valley Women’s Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, and Salem Lutheran Church in Aaronsburg.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Joseph McDonald of State College, and Jerri and Rob Zerby of Millheim; five grandchildren and spouses, Jamie Bierly of Rebersburg, Nathan and Jessica Bierly of Rebersburg, Jennifer and Matthew Boal of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., Dana McDonald and Susan Alden of Hillsborough, N.C., and Matthew McDonald, of Boston; and four great-grandchildren, Hailey Bierly, and Zachary, Alise, and Morgan Boal.
