Dr. Homer F. Mazer, 83, of State College, died Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born August 25, 1927 in Somerset County, he was a son of the late William Howard and Elizabeth (Suder) Mazer.

On August 1, 1953, in Somerset, he married Lorena A. Hebrank, who survives at home.

He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the Philippine’s with the Hq. Battery 743rd AAA Gun Battalion.

Dr. Mazer received all three of his degrees at Penn State University in 1951, 1958g, and 1969g. He retired from Penn State as the Regional Director of Cooperative Extension for the Northwest Region.

Homer was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and grew up as a member of the Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church in Somerset. He was active in the 4-H, Lions Club, National and PA County Agents Association, and Epsilon Sigma Phi.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, gardening, being an avid Penn State fan, extensive RV traveling with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Mark Mazer of Phillipsburg, NJ, Joel Mazer (Laura) of Leesburg, VA, and Neal Mazer (Cindy) of Warriors Mark; one daughter, Amy Wheeler (John) of Frederick, MD; seven grandchildren Alaina and Erin Wheeler, Kara, Eric, Spencer, Chloe and Ellie Mazer. Homer was one of eleven children, surviving are Zona, Edith and Dorothy.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister St, State College. Funeral Services will be held from the church on Tuesday, beginning at 12:00 PM with the Reverend Dr. G. Edwin Zeiders, Jr and the Reverend Eric J. Shafer officiating. Entombment will take place at 2:30 PM on Tuesday at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College.
